About
I started playing video games when I was 13. My parents bought us an Apple IIe computer back then and I’ve been hooked on gaming ever since. I loved that computer! I taught myself a little BASIC coding on it and made a little skiing game. Not much jaw dropping graphics in those days but I will say it felt draw dropping that I could make little green x’s look like a ski slope. I played these 5 1/4″ floppy disc games that only had words, no pictures. I know, I know how boring right? The coolest thing to me about these games at that time was that it was like reading a book. I loved to read and to be able to interact with the written word by making choices that changed the storyline was intoxicating! I must have played Mask of the Sun over and over. Words would come on the screen and describe the enviornment to you then you had to make a choice about what to do; go left, go right, look around, make fire, etc. I was glued to that Apple.
Then came the Atari 2600 which changed everything. God bless my parents for wanting to get us kids the best and newest technology for Christmas! I’ve played many consoles and many generations of PC games. It hasn’t always been peaches and cream around gaming. You see, I’m a girl; a female; a woman. So if anyone out there suffers from not being taken seriously, I can definitely relate. Todaythe most popular question I get asked by men is “are you single? No? Do you have a sister?”. Apparently there are not too many female gamers in the world? Who knew?
As I grew into womanhood my siblings and friends would frequently ask me about the games their children were playing or wanted to play. Through many seasons of this advice, I have opened my thoughts, my opinions and my soapboxes about games to those of you willing to listen. I care about children and the influences they find themselves faced with everyday. The onslaught for us 25 years ago is not the same as it is today. Children are faced with influence from far more streams of contact than ever before.
I share my love of gaming with you and my passion for being informed about what is in the games our children play. I am not here to tell you which games to buy and which games not to buy. I want to help parents make informed decisions for their children and their households. Every parent has their own personal level of acceptable tolerance when it comes to their kids. I want you as parents to have the “in” to what’s inside. I don’t just review the games, I play the games. I can share with you the kind of violence in the game, the degree of blood, the examples of sexual content, and many other things the rating simply can’t get into on the cover.
Thank you for reading!
